Alex Grossi Custom Lead Pedal “LIXXX BOXXX”

Alex Grossi and I have been friends since we were kids playing music in our parent’s basement. We grew up, he moved to Boston to go to Berkeley, then on to L.A., and now has been playing with Quiet Riot for over 15 years!

In his decades of touring, he’s had plenty of time to road test his live gear, and has refined his pedalboard down to a super portable, reliable Firefly case with Mooer mini pedals. He uses a typical array, and frequently uses a Repeater Delay for his solos. However, he also likes a little bump in the EQ and a volume boost, meaning he needs three pedals to get the sound he needs. So I decided to combine all three!

I used a single JFET Stratoblaster boost circuit, modified the caps slightly, and wired it point to point on the output side for the cleanest sound. A single knob will go from unity gain to a full 30db of clean upper mid boost!

He also asked if I could paint it while I had it apart, and of course I said yes! Pink with glitter is totally his style, so the LIXXX BOXXX was born! He loves it so much he asked for another one, which allowed me to change the look and use a higher gain transistor for even more boost!
